Navigating a personal injury claim can feel overwhelming—but avoiding a few common missteps can make a big difference in your case. At Betz & Port, we work hard to guide you through every step of the process. Here are a few practical tips to help you protect your claim and give your case the strongest foundation possible:
- Delaying Medical Attention: Don’t try to tough it out if you are hurting from your injury. While we never recommend “treating your case” or overtreating, clients who do not get in to the doctor have a much weaker basis for their case. Keep treating, at a minimum, monthly or bimonthly, while we are building your case.
- Stay in Touch: Stay in communication with the Betz & Port team. We need to hear from you when we send requests for condition updates or need help getting authorizations. We also love talking with our clients!
- Providing Statements: Avoid giving recorded statements to insurance companies before consulting with your attorney to prevent unintentionally harming your case.
- Not Keeping Records: Document everything, including medical appointments, expenses, lost wages, and how the injury affects your daily life. We recommend keeping a journal and providing it to us every month via email.
- Posting on Social Media: Be mindful of what you post online, as insurance companies may monitor your social media for any activity that could contradict your claims.
- Signing Documents Without Understanding Them: Do not sign any documents from insurance companies or other parties without having your attorney review them.
- Talking to the Other Party: Direct communication with the defendant or their representatives could lead to misunderstandings or admissions that may harm your case.
At Betz & Port, we believe that informed clients make stronger cases. If you ever have questions, concerns, or uncertainties, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to protect your rights and help you move forward with confidence.
