At Betz & Port, we do not limit our counsel to the legal struggles one faces after a major injury. Our mission is to walk with our clients through the economic, psychological, and physical difficulties they are sure to face. The people reaching out to our firm are confident that we fight hard for our clients, seeking fair and adequate compensation when they have been hurt through no fault of their own.
We are technology-forward while maintaining a time-tested emphasis on client relationships. Betz & Port’s distinguished team of attorneys, paralegals, and support staff forms the bedrock of our reputation. We differentiate ourselves with a proven track record of trial advocacy and integrity in all dealings.

Once hired, we successfully get a client’s medical bills and wage loss paid by their own insurance company as soon as possible. Our team then builds the case to present to the wrongdoer’s insurance company. If the wrongdoer’s insurance company is unfair in settlement negotiations, we help a client determine whether or not to go to court and try their case before a jury. We fight vigorously for our clients in court when a case goes to trial. All Betz & Port attorneys have jury trial experience.
Betz & Port is composed of a Pre-Litigation Team, a No-Fault Team and a Trial Team. Each is a cornerstone of our reputation, providing increased efficiency and ease for our clients. New attorneys and support staff join our team at the appropriate time to meet the needs of our clients.
Since passing the bar over 40 years ago, Jim has worked in personal injury law, starting his solo practice out of Anoka, Minnesota in 2001. Always fighting for the underdog, Jim wanted to ensure his current and future clients excellent representation long into the future. Thus, Zack Port joined the firm as partner in 2022.
Jim and Zack met on the Federal Courthouse steps in Minneapolis where they were both involved with the Re-Entry Court Program, a program that helped mentor incarcerated individuals re-entering society. They stayed connected, with Zack working part-time for Jim’s practice throughout college and law school. At Jim’s invitation, Zack joined the firm as partner after graduating from the University of St. Thomas School of Law. At the heart of it all was a desire to help re-balance the power dynamic between individual people and the organizations they encountered.
The newly formed Betz & Port has continued its interest in helping the underdog to this day, with zealous and effective advocacy for each individual client.

Without fail, our clients refer their friends, family, and loved ones to us because their past experience with Betz & Port was rock solid. Clients appreciate how well we communicate with them and clarify confusing aspects of their case. We are set apart from other firms in how expeditiously we move on our cases, not for the sake of speed, but to achieve optimum results for our clients.
Consistently putting clients above everything else, we love going outside our box to help them with frustrations after an injury, whether large or small. We stick by our promise to achieve the best result possible for our clients, and clients know this from the moment one of our attorneys meets with them.
In a business where fear-based billboards, television commercials, and mail ads dominate, we present ourselves to the outside world as authentic, personable, and victorious. We know that people only want a personal injury attorney when they need one, and make a final decision based on reviews and gut instinct. Because of this, we do not chase down or reach out to injured people but focus on establishing a reputation where people call us because we can be trusted. Our marketing makes up a small percentage of our lead sources because most of our clients hear about us from others.

We stick by our promise to achieve the best result possible for our clients, and clients know this from the moment one of our attorneys meets with them.
We are motivated to do the work because we have witnessed time and time again huge insurance companies trying to take advantage of people injured through no fault of their own. Without a meaningful advocate, someone injured in a crash often doesn’t know how to handle the cascade of calls, letters, and decisions that arise the minute they leave the crash scene. We are passionate about sticking up for the little guy and fighting vigorously against large companies.
Day in and day out, you’ll find us joyfully meeting with our clients, negotiating on their behalf, and brainstorming creative strategies to get our clients the compensation they deserve, whether we are in the office or in court.
Service to others is a hallmark of Betz & Port, P.A. This includes service not only to our clients, but others in need. We take time to assist people with pro bono matters. Many of the leadership team at Betz & Port support faith and other non-profit organizations such as Freedom’s Journey, Feed My Starving Children, Vertical Church, BethelBiz Mentorship, Celebrate Recovery, North Point Church, Grace Fellowship, United Way, Special Olympics, and Compassion Ministries.
